PORT DICKSON – The candidate of Pakatan Harapan (PH) for the Port Dickson by-election Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated his readiness to provide his service as a consultant to any former leader and their partner on living behind bars.
Jokingly, Anwar said that there are several phases of life in prison and a prisoner needs to be competent in living through them.
“If the court found Datuk Seri Najib and Datin Seri Rosmah guilty, I can provide my consultancy on how to persevere in prison.
“You can lock someone up but you cannot change their heart.
“I don’t blame them (court), it is their job,” he said in a special meeting with the Pro98 Reformis in Negeri Sembilan.
The former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is currently facing 21 charges under AMLATFA, 4 charges under Section 23 (1) and 24 (1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 and 4 charges under AMLATFPUAA.
Meanwhile, his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor is facing 17 charges under AMLA.
Anwar also said that he has put aside all black tragedies which happened to him. However, he said that the action of a former leader who stole money from the people cannot be forgiven.
“In my case, let bygones be bygones and it is forgiven, unless, if he robs from the people, that must be returned. The court must act justly,” he added.
Anwar was imprisoned twice. He was jailed in 1999 for six years over power abuse.
In 2008, Anwar was slapped with a five-year-jail term for sodomising his former aide, Mohd. Saiful Bukhari Azlan who is also his contender for the Port Dickson parliamentary by-election. -MalaysiaGazette
