KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Najib Razak alleged that the government has received a total of RM33.4 billion from the settlement and return of funds related to 1 Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

He further questioned about the status of the money as the 1MDB debts left by the Barisan Nasional government amounting to RM32.2 billion became RM32.3 billion.

“Complained about the 1MDB debt but they did not explain about the funds that have been repaid and the assets in 1MDB. This is the reality.

“1MDB debts left by BN was RM32.2 billion. The 1MDB debts in 2021 is RM32.3 billion (the PH and PN government did not pay a single sen on the principal of the debt since GE14).

“The amount recovered by the government at the moment: RM33.4 bilion (where did the money go and why didn’t they use it to fully settle the RM33.2 billion 1MDB debts?),” he questioned.

That amount, he said, that amount does not include the settlements from KPMG, Wong & Partners, IPIC, Abu Dhabi which are still under negotiations and the sales of the Exchange 106 Building that has yet to be announced.

Furthermore, 1MDB still has assets including IPP (around RM50 billion), construction and upgrade of eight bases belonging to the Ministry of Defence, including Sendayan (RM2.7 billion), remaining 40% of stakes in Bandar Malaysia (40% from the rough development value of RM140 billion) and the rough estimation of the development of Tun Razak Exchange (RM40 billion).

Cynically, Najib questioned about the burdening 1MDB debts but the RM33.4 billion and the remaining assets of 1MDB worth hundreds of billion that did not lighten the burden of the government.

“Assets was increased to RM1.2 trillion by the BN government during my reign as the PM from RM800 billion at the end of 2008, to RM2 billion at the end og 2017 for Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional spent RM600 billion, including the RM16.9 billion in KWAN funds could not lighten the burden?

“The RM600 billion that our 8th PM said he spent… where did PN get that money? Did PN started saving since they were young?” he questioned.

Yesterday, in a media briefing, Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz said that the Perikatan Nasional has inherited over RM1 trillion in loans and liabilities of the previous government, including loan guarantees without the source of repayment such as 1MDB debts, Private Financial Initiatives (PFI) for the off-balance sheet financing (OBS).

For instance, the RM40 billion obligation of 1MDB is enough to pay for eight times of the vaccine cost.

“So, what is the best choice that should be taken by the PN Government, which inherited the obligation to repay liabilities such as PFI through off balance sheet, 1MDB, SRC and such estimated to cost more than RM20 billion a year for the next 5 years?

“The amount of commitment could have been used to finance the current needs of the people such as BPR, wages subsidy programme, Prihatin Special Grants and especially the cost of vaccine,” he said. –MalaysiaGazette
