KUALA LUMPUR – Former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is ready to face any legal action after he is believed to have violated the standard operating procedures (SOP).

Dr Mahathir said, he accepted that he has committed an offence and apologised over the incidence.

“I was told that I have violated the SOP during the event and I did not record my body temperature when I entered the surau.

“That was an offence. It should not have happened. I apologise for not following the SOP.

“I will accept the actions taken against me according to the law,” he said in a statement today.

Yesterday, a 2 minute 30 second video showing the Chairman of Parti Pejuang Tanahair (Pejuang) violating the SOP during an event in Langkawi went viral.

The event was held at Surau Tsunami Batu Arang, Kuala Teriang and Surau Kampung Lubuk Setul for the distribution of contribution to the residents in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

In that video, the twice former Prime Minister was found to have failed in recording his body temperature and scanning the MySejahtera while entering the surau although the equipment and MySejahtera code was provided at that venue.

“We should not take this lightly. Once again, I apologise for breaking the rule,” he said.

Yesterday, former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had to pay compound amounting to RM3,000 for violating SOP.

Najib was issued a RM1,500 compound for each offence under Regulation 19 of the of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) (Conditional Movement Control Order) (No 4) 2021. – MalaysiaGazette
