KUALA LUMPUR – Army Veteran, Private Suria Mohamad Hassan who lived under a bridge with his family earlier urged everyone not to question about his pension.

According to him, his pension will never be enough for his large family.

“How can I support my 12 family members with only RM1,000 per month? How can I feed 12 people, meet their health needs, their clothes and their disposable diapers?

“If they want to question those who gave assistance to me, I am disappointed. I am grateful with what I have now,” he said in a news conference with the Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) Veteran Association.

Also present at the news conference was the President of Martabat Jalinan Muhibbah Malaysia (MJMM), Abdul Rani Kulup Abdullah.

Meanwhile, the Kuala Lumpur MAF Veteran Association thanked everyone who helped Suria and his family.

Shamsudin said, the association is touched with the assistance they get, especially from the Ministry of Defence and its Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“I think that the JHEV (Veteran Affairs Department) has given help as much as they can and we will continue to provide assistance to ensure that Suria’s children’s welfare and health is protected.

“I am confident with the cooperation from various agencies, each problem would have its solution and Suria needs to be patient as the help is there,” he said in a news conference.

Last Saturday, MalaysiaGazette revealed Suria’s story, where he was homeless and lived with his wife and five children under the bridge in Loke Yew since November 2019.

Following the revelation, Suria and his family’s fate received the attention from various quarters.
