KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin need not show that he still command the majority trust of the Members of Parliament (MPs) unless proven otherwise.

Thus, UMNO, who announced the withdrawal of support towards Muhyiddin earlier this morning and demanded the PM to resign needs to get a statutory declaration (SD) from all its MP that they have lost their confidence for the PM.

The SD, according to Professor Datuk Dr Shamrahayu Ab Aziz needs to reach the Yang di-Pertuan Agong before His Majesty can order the PM to have an audience with him based on Article 43(4) of the Federal Constitution.

She who is also the incumbent Institution of the Malay Rulers Chair at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) said, if a PM loses the majority confidence, he would have two choices namely, to resign, or to request the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to dissolve the Parliament.

“The Prime Minister need not show that he commands the confidence of the majority. Other parties may also show that they have lose the confidence towards the Prime Minister or that they trust other people,” she said.

Nevertheless, Dr Shamrahayu said that perhaps, the PM needs to take note if there are ministers or MPs who resign from the important positions that they hold such as the positions in Government-Linked Companies (GLC).

Earlier this morning, the President of UMNO, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced the UMNO Supreme Council’s decision to withdraw their support for Muhyiddin as they claimed that the latter has failed to fulfil all guidelines presented by UMNO on 11 March 2020.

However, while reading out the five-page statement, Ahmad Zahid did not state if the MPs of the party would resign from Muhyiddin’s cabinet.

He also did not state if the UMNO Chairmen in GLCs would withdraw from their positions.

The statement did not mention any details if there was any motion of no confidence on the leadership of Muhyiddin and the action towards MPs who refuse to withdraw their support for the PM.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement on the appointment of Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the Vice-President of UMNO as the Deputy Prime Minister and Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein as the Senior Minister of Foreign Affair. –MalaysiaGazette
