KUALA LUMPUR – The government has given RM40.5 million of fee discount for Public Universities for the second academic session 2020/2021.
Earlier, a fee reduction of RM70.2 million was given during the first semester of the 2020/2021 academic session.
The government had also carried out several initiatives including reducing service fee, dormitory fee, convocation fee, college activities fee ranging from 10% to 35% since the second semester of the academic session 2019/2020.
According to the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), the initiatives involved a financial implication of RM185.7 million to benefit 386,142 students for the three semesters.
MOHE said, the measures clearly show that the government is concerned in handling the financial burdens of the students and parents.
It added, the fee reduction rate is also appropriate as 20 Public Universities in the country have to bear high operational costs using their internal resources following the reduction of income from fee besides the decline in allocation for the management by the government following the pandemic. –MalaysiaGazette
