KUALA LUMPUR – The police denied the allegation of a woman who had allegedly became a domestic violence victim for the past 12 years in Sungai Petani, Kedah.

Kedah Police Chief, Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat referred to a report by MalaysiaGazette yesterday saying that the woman had lodged eight police reports but no action was taken against her abuser.

“The police would like to verify that on 4 April at around 12.30 am, the victim had lodged a report at the Sungai Petani Police Station. The early objective of the woman lodging the report was to annul her marriage.

“On 29 April 2021, the complainant went to the Kuala Muda IPD again and stated that she would like to pursue the case and would like to apply for an Interim Protection Order (IPO). An investigation paper was opened on 29 April 2021 and the case was investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code / 18A Domestic Violence Act for being harmed by her husband,” he said in a statement today.

According to him, the victim’s children aged nine and seven have been referred to the Child Interview Centre (CIC) for statement recording. They have also been referred to the Counsellor of Kedah IPK for investigation purposes.

“Two arrests were made on 3 May 2021 to assist in the investigation. The Investigation Officer had handed over the Interim Protection Order (IPO) to the suspect on 28 June 2021. Investigation has been completed and the investigation paper has been referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s Office for further order.

“The police deny the writings in MalaysiaGazette and urge the victim to contact the investigation officer if there is any information on question on the police reports,” said Kamarul Zaman. –MalaysiaGazette
