KUALA LUMPUR – Five Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) demanded the police to take stern actions on the organisers of Keluar and #Lawan Assembly in the capital city last Saturday.
Its representative, Kamarudin Ahmad as the lawyer representing the five NGOs lodged a report at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters at 11.30 am this morning.
According to him, the police report demands the police to investigate and take stern actions on the organisers of #Lawan as they have violated the standard operating procedures (SOP) for mass assembly without practicing physical distancing.
“The mass assembly would also create the risk of demonstration cluster.
“Therefore, we are also disappointed with the irresponsible attitude of Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) and Suara Rakyat Malaysia (SUARAM) for not taking a stand on the participants who have violated the Movement Control Order (MCO).
“At the moment when the country is hard hit by the Covid-19, the #Lawan assembly has threatened the public health and order and we demand the police to take stern actions on the organisers of that assembly,” he told the media at the Dang Wangi IPD today.
According to Kamarudin, stern actions according to the law is vital in ensuring assemblies that violate the MCO SOP will not repeat in the future. He also shared his concerns that a #Lawan Covid-19 Cluster may emerge due to the irresponsible action of the participants.
“We, the people do not want this to continue, if there is no action from the police, more groups may do the same thing. When do we need to stay locked down?
“We will continue to be in Covid-19 lockdown if the numbers do not subside and our objective is to stop such assemblies from happening again,” he said. –MalaysiaGazette
