KUALA LUMPUR – Teachers who refused to be vaccinated due to health reasons will be placed at a special area in school when the physical school session starts on 3 October.
Senior Minister of Education, Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin said that the non-vaccinated teachers will be isolated from the students and vaccinated educators.
He said, the Ministry of Education (MOE) is studying the follow-up actions that can be taken against the group of teachers from the context of civil service regulations and procedures.
“Based on the record of MOE, approximately 2,500 teachers have been identified to refuse vaccination without health reasons. This figure comes after we deducted the number of teachers who have not been vaccinated due to health reasons.
“Generally, they are not allowed to teach physical classes and they need to do other assignments determined later,” he stated, adding that the ministry has yet to finalised on the action that will be taken against those teachers during a joint-news conference with the Senior Minister of Defence, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein today.
On a relevant development, Hishammuddin said that the decision to reopen physical schools was made after considering the welfare of five million students nationwide.
He said, the general students from various background have been detached from the physical school institutions for a long period since May.
He further explained that the situation would make students think that they would never return to physical school session. Besides that, the approach of reopening physical schools in stages could at least give them a new idea that it is in line with the transition into endemic phase, as stated by the Ministry of Health (MOH).
“We can choose to not reopen schools and it is the easier way out. However, we have five million students from various background, and they have been detached from school for a long period of time since last May.
“If we decide to close schools until next year, thus, they would think that physical schooling would not take place until 2022,” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
