KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysia Institute of Infectious Diseases will be built in Bandar Enstek, Negeri Sembilan in 2022, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The institute is aimed to prevent infectious diseases related sickness, disabilities and deaths.

“The government has also identified proactive approaches in increasing the preparedness of the hospitals, to achieve the hospital bed ratio of 2.06 per 1,000 population by 2025.

“The government will also develop new health facilities, on top on the 12 hospitals under constructions nationwide that is expected to complete within the RMK12 time frame,” he said during the Twelfth Malaysia Plan (RMK12) presentation at the Dewan Rakyat today.

Besides that, healthcare equipment, including those needed in the intensive care unit (ICU) will be increased.

In the efforts to close the gaps between healthcare facilities in the urban and rural areas, the government will build and upgrade health clinics nationwide.

“The government remain committed in strengthening the healthcare system to ensure healthy and productive people. We will revise the effectiveness of the existing healthcare system,” he said.

According to him, the National Health Policy will be drafted to increase preparedness in managing infectious diseases and healthcare crises.

The National Vaccine Development Plan is also being finalised, to ensure that Malaysia is able to produce its own vaccine, to prepare the country to face other pandemics in the future. -MalaysiaGazette
