KUALA LUMPUR – The government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is urged to focus on the implementation of the Twelfth Malaysia Plan (RMK12) presented yesterday.
Opposition Chief, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that the government should prioritise on carrying out RMK12 successfully, by postponing government’s mega project and return to the people.
“The parliament should also fully demand for the RMK12 to be given the priority. If needed, postpone mega projects, postpone airport projects, ECRL and revise everything. MRT3.
“What is the benefit for us to carry on while the people are in hunger, unemployed, having not enough to eat, and insufficient education quality now?” he said during the RMK12 debate at the Dewan Rakyat today.
Yesterday, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced three themes, four catalytic policy enablers, and 14 game changers that are holistic for the country, economy and the people while introducing the RMK12.
Ismail Sabri said, the RMK12 with the objective of A Prosperous, Inclusive, Sustainable Malaysia, may pave way for Keluarga Malaysia to enjoy a better standard of living.
Meanwhile, Anwar also urged the government to revise the RM10,000 target of average household income by 2025.
Elaborating on the matter, Anwar said that the target is great, however, the government needs to be realistic on the poverty and employment rate of the country.
“It would be better if the average household income is based on the poverty rate,” he said.
Anwar, who is also the Member of Parliament of Port Dickson said that the Department of Statistics should realise that those who merely work for a few hours weekly do not have enough of income to support their family.
“That amount (RM10,000) must be revised, especially during the economic downturn,” he added. -MalaysiaGazette
