KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) explained that the RM1.1 million compound on Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan was a punitive action against any individual involved and it is also a form of recovering the assets under AMLATFPUAA 2001.
The Kuala Lumpur High Court has acquitted and discharged the Member of Parliament (MP) of Pontian of of two counts money laundering and giving false statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) charges, after he paid the compound under Section 92(1) of Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA 2001).
MACC in a statement said that Ahmad was offered the compound in October 2019, however, he chose to be trialled at the court.
Therefore, he was charged on two counts of charges under Section 4(1) and Section 32(8)(c) of AMLATFPUAA 2001 on 20 January 2020.
However, during the proceeding, Ahmad made a representation and agreed to pay the compound. -MalaysiaGazette
