KUALA LUMPUR – Four Melaka State Assemblymen have withdrawn their support for Chief Minister (CM), Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.
The announcement was made in a news conference led by the Sungai Udang State Assemblyman (UMNO) cum former CM, Datuk Seri Idris Haron.
Also present at the news conference were the State Assemblymen Datuk Nor Azman Hassan (BN-Pantai Kundor), Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Independent – Pengkalan Batu) and Datuk Noor Effandi Ahmad (BERSATU-Telok Mas).
“The four of us have submitted our letter of no confidence to the Chief Minister’s Office.
“Thus, the four of us will seek a solution to pave way for a government to be set up so that we can move towards the future,” he said.
At the same time, the Melaka Pakatan Harapan (PH) and the four State Assemblymen who have withdrawn their support to Sulaiman intended to meet the Governor of Melaka, Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam.
According to the Melaka PH Chairman, Adly Zahari, the meeting is important to ensure political stability and order in the state.
“11 State Assembly Members from PH and the Sungai Udang State Assemblyman, Datuk Seri Idris Harun, who represented four State Assemblymen would like to meet the Governor of Melaka.
“It is to discuss about the efforts that can be taken to ensure political continuity and government administration in the state,” said the former CM from Amanah (PH) in a news conference today.
Adly held the news conference after the four State Assemblymen announced their loss of confidence in Sulaiman.
When asked about the candidate for the new CM, Adly said that the matter would be decided after the meeting with Mohd Ali.
“According to the State Constitution, the power to appoint the Chief Minister lies in the hands of the Governor,” said the former CM from Amanah (PH).
Speculations were running wild earlier alleging that the Melaka state government led by UMNO would be toppled anytime as four State Assemblymen from the government would render their support for PH instead. Apparently, they have signed a Statutory of Declaration (SD) on the matter. -MalaysiaGazette
