SEGAMAT – The continuous rain for the past four days in Segamat has brought extraordinary crowd to the self-service laundry industry in the district.

An observation by MalaysiaGazette in the quaint town found that the self-service laundries were full of customers until late night.

The clothes dryers were among the services in Segamat.

The consumers also spent a long time waiting for their turn to use those machines.

Self-service laundry service was never her first choice to do laundry. However, due to the uncertain weather, she was more comfortable to just use the service.

“It is tough due to the rainy season. I use the laundry service during this season. I am willing to wait as long as my clothes can dry properly,” she said when met today.

Meanwhile, Nor Awati Hamid, 32, also confessed that the self-service laundry made her daily chores easier. The mother of two said that it has become a great option for those with big families.

“I usually use this during the season (rainy). I just reached but I am willing to wait as my children would need the clothes later.

“There are many people here. I’m not the only person who is willing to wait this long,” she said.

MalaysiaGazette also found that the customers had to place their clothes basket in front of the dryers they want to use according to their turn.

Meanwhile, the raincoats were sold out since the first day of the heavy rain in Segamat.

An observation at four premises that sell raincoats found that they had to sell display units following the high demand of the item.

Salesperson, Siti Nor Aqela Amin, 22 said that there was a delay in shipment from the suppliers and a sudden spike of demand for the item, causing it to go out of stock.

A worker from the supermarket had to sell raincoats from the display unit to the customers following the lack of stock.
