KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor recorded another rabies case on a senior citizen at Kuala Langat on 22 April. This is also the second case in the state.

The Selangor Health Director, Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman said that the 85-year-old man was admitted into the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) in Klang on 20 April after being referred by the Telok Panglima Health Clinic.

The man was suffering from anaemia and examination found that he has a wound on his right leg which did not heal since two months ago.

He also complained about headache, loss of appetite and had a change of behaviour for the past two weeks.

“Spine liquid samples and nuchal biopsy conducted on 22 April was tested positive of rabies by the Medical Research Institute.

“The patient is in a stable condition and still being treated at the isolation ward of the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital,” he said.

The patient had a history of being bitten by a stray dog outside his house in Carey Island two months ago.

Sha’ari said, the Selangor State Health Department will continue to monitor the rabies situation in the state. -MalaysiaGazette
