GEORGE TOWN – The drug case remand detainee who escaped from the Bayan Baru Central Police Lockup last Tuesday (26 April) was rearrested at Batu Kurau, Taiping yesterday.

The 33-year-old suspect was rearrested at a chalet at about 6.00 pm.

MalaysiaGazette was told that the arrest was conducted by a team of police from the Special Branch of the Timur Laut District Police Headquarters.

Meanwhile, a news conference on the arrest will be made by the Penang Police Chief, Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain this morning at the Penang Police Contingent Headquarters.

Last Tuesday, the detainee managed to break out from the lockup at 12 midnight after breaking the roof of the lockup.

Following that, Mohd Shuhaily said that six policemen with the ranks of Constable, Corporal and Lance Corporal were arrested to assist into the case.

The suspect, Azizi Mohamad Hassan, 33, was arrested on 20 April while waiting for the decision under Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985. -MalaysiaGazette
