KUALA LUMPUR – The Ministry of Health (MOH) will set up an independent taskforce to investigate the death of a Houseman at the Penang Hospital last month.
That dedicated team will also be investigating on the bully culture allegation against the House Officers in hospitals, said Health Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar.
“I’ve received the preliminary report on the death of a houseman from his Head of Department in Penang. The police are also completing their investigation.
“@KKMPutrajaya will set up an independent taskforce to investigate the case and the alleged bully culture,” Khairy Twitted.
The media reported earlier that a fresh medical graduate placed at the Penang Hospital fell off the 23rd floor of his rented apartment at Jalan Datuk Keramat, George Town on 17 April. The victim was posted at the Penang Hospital on 4 April.
The police had also recorded statements from the doctors and housemates of the houseman.
The Acting Timur Laut District Police Chief, Superintendent V Saravanan said, early investigation found that the House Officer was believed to have jump off from the window of his rented room.
Earlier, the Penang Health Director, Dr Maarof Sudin, verified the death of the victim who had reported to work at the Penang Hospital on 4 April.
Last Tuesday, the media reported that the Timur Laut District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Soffian Santong, confirmed the case, saying that the initial investigation centred on sudden death. However, he said that the police would not reject the possibility to reclassify the case in light of fresh evidence. -MalaysiaGazette
