KUALA LUMPUR – A Special Branch (SB) officer has filed two separate defamation suits, on a Bukit Aman senior director and a former diplomat for accusing him of making false claims.
Assistant Superintendent Azwan Jamaldin was accused of making several false claims totalling RM63,704 for the maintenance and repair of vehicles belonging to the Malaysian police liaison officer (MPLO) in Pontianak, Indonesia.
Azwan named the Bukit Aman Management Director, Datuk Ramli Din and the former Malaysian consul to Pontianak, Mohiuddin Ghazali as the defendants in the suit filed at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court last week.
In his writ of summons, Azwan alleged that Mohiuddin had falsely and maliciously written and published defamatory remarks about him in emails, between 23 December 2020 and 8 March 2021.
Mohiuddin allegedly wrote the emails to an officer at Wisma Putra in August 2021 to urge an investigation on Azwan’s expenditure claims.
The investigation team then verified that Azwan had falsified his claims.
Azwan also alleged that Ramli wrote an alleged defamatory letter on 23 March 2021, based on Mohiuddin’s allegations and sent it to several top-ranking police officers.
The top cops included, the Director of Special Branch, Datuk Mohamed Farid Abu Hassan; Deputy Special Branch Director II, Datuk Cheong Koon Kock; E7 Special Branch Chief Assistant Director, Senior Assistant Commissioner Aida Abdul Hamid; then Inspector-General of Police and the government of Malaysia.
Azwan is seeking for compensation on the damages from the defendants as his reputation as a police officer has been badly tarnished and he was denied promotion due to the accusation.
The counsel representing Azwan, M. Manoharan said that he has filed the suit on behalf of his client at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on 23 May.
During the management of the case, the court asked Ramli to file his defence by 15 June, meanwhile, the case management involving Mohiuddin is set on 3 June. -MalaysiaGazette
