medical officer MO on-call
Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar

SEPANG – The complaint from a Medical Officer (MO) who often gets the On-Call order at a government hospital is not an isolated case, said the Minister of Health, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar.

He believes that many other similar cases are happening in other hospitals and the issue needs to be resolved as it is not a new problem.

In cases like that, Khairy said that the hospital director and head of department should be blamed for not informing the Human Resources Department of the ministry when there is a shortage of MO.

“The problem faced by MO is nothing new and it has been going on for a pretty long time. It needs to be solved. On the recent viral case, the MO in the hospital is the only MO left in that department and has to work day and night. The MO’s application for transfer was also not entertained.

“In this case, there are some weaknesses because the hospital director should not have allowed the situation to happen and let only one MO bear all the responsibility of the department.

“We will take further action because that is not an isolated case,” he said during a news conference after launching the National Level World Food Safety Day today.

Khairy also questioned the head of department and hospital director for not informing the Human Resources Department of his ministry on the shortage of MO.

According to him, the Ministry of Health (MOH) can take further action immediately.

“I am very dissatisfied with what happened,” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
