NEW YORK- United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has called for irreversible progress towards a two-state solution and a ceasefire in Gaza, the Palestine News and Info Agency (WAFA) reported.
In a televised address to the 19th General Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean held in Rome last night, Guterres emphasized the urgent need for peace and stability in the Middle East.
He further said that the region is being reshaped, but it is unclear what the future will hold.
The UN chief added that the responsibility now lies with the international community to help ensure that the people of the Middle East emerge from these challenges with peace, dignity, and a renewed sense of hope based on tangible action.
He pointed out the deep transformations currently taking place in the region, which are marked by uncertainty but also by opportunities for change.
