SUBANG –  The government has given full authority to the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) to fight drug syndicates in the country.

Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that the government is serious in the drug war mission as statistics show a staggering 55.4 percent of crimes recorded last year were connected to the drug syndicates.

This is an alarming increase compared to 2015 when 48 percent was recorded while in 2014, 42 percent, which lead the government to give full authority to the RMP to act on the drugs war.

“We give full authority to the RMP to battle the drug syndicates, especially to capture the ‘king’ of these operations. Do whatever you need to do,” he said during a press conference after chairing the 24th Annual Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) meeting.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Minister of Home Affairs said, rehabilitation programs for the addicts should also include spiritual and religious approaches.

He added, rehabilitation centres that applied these approaches showed better results.

“I hope that this will set an example to all other centres,” he said.

Also present at the meeting were Deputy Chairman of MCPF; Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, Senior Vice-President, Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye and Director General of Immigration Department, Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali. –MalaysiaGazette
