PETALING JAYA – Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin described the suggestion of a Dewan Rakyat MP that rape victims should marry their rapist is beyond limit.
The President of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) said, this suggestion does not solve any problem. Besides, Islam forbids the act of rape and it is a major sin.
“Islam does not condone raping. The suggestion too, does not solve any social problems.
“I think that he is off limit by thinking that it will solve the problem, when rape itself, is an loathed action,” he told the media in a press conference today.
He elaborated on the statement by Tasek Gelugor MP, Shahbudin Yahya in Dewan Rakyat yesterday quoted saying that, it’s OK for rape victims to marry their rapists, for their future will be doomed if they don’t.
According to Muhyiddin, that is also a very confusing suggestion. He would like the MP to seek advice of religious leaders on the matter. They should have better answers to that.
On another note when asked of Barisan Nasional’s (BN) decision in not to table the Private Bill for the Amendments of Act 355 (RUU355) by PAS, Muhyiddin said that PPBM’s stand remained the same; to leave it to the decision of Dewan Rakyat. -MalaysiaGazette
