KUALA LUMPUR – The curfew at the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone) will be extended for two more weeks starting tomorrow.
The curfew period will begin from 6.00 P.M. until 6.00 A.M. until 7 June.
Sabah Police Commissioner, Datuk Ramli Din said, the curfew will take effect 3 nautical from the shores of seven districts namely Tawau, Lahad Datu, Semporna, Kunak, Beluran, Kinabatangan and Sandakan.
According to him, the curfew will be extended to its 67th phase to ensure the waters are not affected by the terrorists.
There are information that Abu Sayyaf militants are carrying out kidnapping for ransoms and carrying out crimes across borders.
“The curfew enables the enforcement and monitoring of boat movements. At the same time, it also aims to provide security for the chalet operators and fishermen,” he said in a statement today.
With that, he requested the public to stay out of the locations for the curfew.
Nevertheless, the district police chiefs have been empowered to issue permits to applicants who are in desperate needs to pass the areas of curfew for fishing purposes,” he said. – MalaysiaGazette
