KUALA LUMPUR- The e-hailing service company, Grab will remain as one of the official sponsor for the 29th SEA Games.

Although it has yet to get the Parliamentary approval or license from SPAD, the sponsorship of Grab in the SEA Games will remain unchanged according to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar in a media conference today.

According to Khairy, although the operation of Grab has yet to be finalized in the country, it doesn’t pose a problem.

“In legal terms, it is also not a problem. The government is still in the process of finalising the law for Grab and e-hailing services.

“As far as I know, there is no issue on Grab as our strategic partner in the organisation of SEA Games. I’m confident that Grab will ensure no unpleasant incidents to happen throughout the SEA Games,” he said.

Following the incident of a pregnant woman robbed by e-hailing driver, Khairy believes that Grab will ensure that the incident will not happen among its drivers.

“The incident involved another company (Uber). I am sure that our partner, Grab will work to avoid such incidences throughout the SEA Games,” he said.

Khairy announced Royal Selangor as the Silver Sponsor for the 29th SEA Games.

Among their sponsorship includes the torch used throughout the SEA Games torch run.

Besides that, the Royal Selangor also sponsors all the medals for the 29th SEA Games and 9th Para ASEAN Games. – MalaysiaGazette
