PORT DICKSON – A total of 77 illegal immigrants were detained for various offences by the Immigration Department during the E-Card Ops Mega raid at a construction site here last night.

The two hours operation started last night at 10.30 p.m. was conducted by 148 officers from Putrajaya and Negeri Sembilan to detect illegal immigrants who failed to register under the Enforcement Card or E-Card programme after its grace period which ended on 30 June.

Immigration Deputy Director-General (Operations) Datuk Jaafar Mohamed who headed the operation said, 185 foreigners from Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal were rounded up during the operation at the workers’ quarters of Batu 12 Splash Park in Pasir Panjang.

“The immigrants detained comprised 15 Bangladeshi nationals, 60 Indonesians, a Nepalese and a Pakistani, aged between 25 and 60. They were detained for various offences under the Immigration Act 1959/1963,” he told reporters after the operation.

He added, out of the 77 detainees, 71 were male while six were females.

They illegal immigrants will be sent to the Lenggeng or Semenyih Immigration Depot, depending on its availability.

Meanwhile, the enforcement activities will continue to ensure the safety, sovereignty and welfare of the citizens and the country.

“We will not mistreat the offenders. We treat them ethically and professionally with integrity,” he said. – MalaysiaGazette
