KUALA LUMPUR – Minister of Defence Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussien gave his mandates to the athletes from Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) who will be taking parts in the coming 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games.

Hishamuddin said, all 72 athletes from MAF are the prides of the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and they’re confident that the athletes will perform their best and make the country proud.

“They are not only representing the country. All 72 of them are also a member of MINDEF and MAF. They are very special indeed.

“My mandate for them is that they will do their best. I am confident with their capabilities. They will do their best on whatever entrusted on them,” he said after meeting the MAF athletes at Bukit Jalil today.

He also hoped that the athletes will help to reach the 111 gold medal target set by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

“I hope that they can help to achieve the goals set by YB Khairy (Khairy Jamaluddin),” he added.

The 72 athletes will be participating in 14 sports including cycling, hockey, cricket, shooting, muay thai, field athlete, petanque, ping pong, takraw, boxing, archery and pencak silat.

Some of them are having trainings at the National Sports Council and in making their final preparation before going to the field.

Besides that, 184 MAF members were chosen as Technical Officers for the championship and they were given the responsibilities in the judiciary and management of the sports event.

“Personally, as the Minister of Defence, I am very proud with the involvement of MAF as athletes in the most prestigious and largest sports event of this region.

“It proves that the members of MAF are not only efficient in the military, but they are also equipped with sports skills which enable them to represent their country.

The 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games will commence officially this 19 August. – MalaysiaGazette
