KUALA LUMPUR – President of Parti Warisan, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal has been summoned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to give statement on the misappropriation of government funds amounting to RM1.5billion meant for the development of rural areas in Sabah.

The former Minister of Rural and Regional Development (RRD) is expected to arrive at the MACC office in Kota Kinabalu this afternoon.

A source who is also an officer to Shafie confirmed that the latter had received the notice by MACC and they are currently on their way to Kota Kinabalu.

Earlier, two of his brothers, Hamid Apdal and Yusof Apdal were also arrested over the fund.

Besides the brothers, MACC had also arrested three individuals including the Vice-President of Parti Warisan and a Sabah UMNO Division Youth Chief over the same scandal.

Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operation) of MACC Datuk Seri Azam Baki said, an estimation of RM1.5 billion have been embezzled from the RM7.5 billion public fund for the Sabah rural development between 2010 and 2016.

Azam said, over 60 companies have been identified to be involved in carrying out the project. They are currently tracking everyone involved. – MalaysiaGazette
