KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Najib slammed the United States of America (USA) to not undermine Malaysia for its stand on Jerusalem.
He emphasized that Malaysia has never token any loan from the Uncle Sam country.
Prime Minister reinforced Malaysia’s stand in objecting the USA’s decision by declaring Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and took a bold step in supporting the United Nations (UN) resolution in rejecting the decision by Donald Trump in recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
“The Foreign Minister called me last night and asked about Malaysia’s opinion on the Emergency UN General Assembly… Malaysia supports the resolution as we are not beggars who need ‘donations’ from other countries.
“Despite having great influence and power, do not undermine Malaysia for we have our pride too,” he said during the Save Jerusalem Solidarity Rally at Putra Mosque today.
Before the UN General Assembly voted last night, the President of USA threatened to cut financial aids to countries which voted against USA.
The world has decisively backed a resolution effectively calling on the US to withdraw its recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The text says that any decisions regarding the status of the city are “null and void” and must be cancelled.
The non-binding resolution was approved by 128 states, with 35 abstaining and nine others voting against. 21 countries did not turn up for the vote.
Najib emphasized that Malaysia has never taken any loan from America. On the contrary, the USA asked for Malaysia’s help in terms of investment.
“They (USA) asked us to buy their aircrafts, invest… this shows that Malaysia is a developing country and can be a model to other countries,” he added.
Najib also emphasized that Malaysia will never sacrifice the principles and the purity of Islam despite having a good relationship with Trump.
“I wish to explain that yes, I received warm welcome by Donald Trump at the White House.
“But, in terms of principles, I will never allow the purity of Islam to be tainted,” he added.
The solidarity rally held to state Malaysia’s rejection on America’s decision in declaring Jerusalem as the capital of Israel was supposed to be attended by Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang. However, the President of PAS could not make it to the rally.
He was represented by his son, Khalil Abdul Hadi, who is also the PAS Central Youth Chief.
Also present at the rally were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and several NGO groups. – MalaysiaGazette
