ALOR SETAR: The Perlis Drainage and Irrigation Department Director is among three individuals remanded for seven days till 5 February to assist the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in its investigation into alleged corruption and power abuse.
MACC detained the director aged 60 and two company owners aged 39 and 50 at a Kedah MACC office yesterday and secured the remand order on them from Alor Setar lower court assistant registrar Wan Nor Fadzilah Wan Ibrahim today.
The agency also seized almost RM900,000 in cash and documents related to bank accounts totaling RM2.9 million at the house of one of the company owners.
The director is believed to have corruptly accepted ‘10%’ for each project awarded by the department to appointed contractors between 2014 and 2017, while the two company owners were believed to have abetted him. — MalaysiaGazette
