KUALA BERANG – The level of education of the Orang Asli children has been improving in line with the community’s awareness on the importance of education for their future, said Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.
He said the well-equipped and comfortable schools including hostels built by the government nationwide had also attracted them to go to school.
“Currently, there are about 98 primary schools and a secondary school in the peninsula that have 37,934 Orang Asli students.
“There are five K9 category schools, which are primary and secondary schools (from Standard One to Form Three) namely two in Perak, two in Pahang and one in Selangor built for Orang Asli
community in the peninsula,” he said.
He spoke to reporters after opening the new building of the Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Berua at Sungai Berua Orang Asli Settlement here today.
The RM200,000 building which houses four classrooms was contributed by a contractor company, T7 Global Berhad.
