PUTRAJAYA – The Election Commission of Malaysia (EC) has fixed the polling date for the 14th General Election (GE14) on 9 May while the candidates nomination date on 28 April.
The announcement was made by its Chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah in a special media conference at the EC Tower in Putrajaya today.
The early polling date is set on 5 May, with a total 11 campaign days.
Prior to GE14, the EC fixed 15 campaign days for GE13 and 13 days for GE12.
Mohd Hashim said, there is a total of 14,940,624 Malaysian citizens eligible to vote in GE14.
300,255 individuals will be voting early while 3,653 individuals will be voting overseas.
“To ease the process of GE14, the EC has appointed 222 officers to manage the election. A total of 445 teams will be on duty to overlook and monitor the whole election campaign activities throughout its official campaign days,” he said.
A total of 259,391 election workers will be on duty at the 8,898 polling centres and 28,995 polling streams involving 222 Parliamentary and 505 state assembly seats.
The GE14 will witness at least a 3-cornered contest between Barisan Nasional (BN), Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Pas.
PH through its Chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has announced that the PH candidates from DAP, PAN and PPBM will be contesting under the logo of PKR in GE14. -MalaysiaGazette
