KUALA LUMPUR – The government has declared 9 May as an additional public holiday nationwide.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the decision was made to enable the public to fulfil their duties for the country, as the polling date falls on a working day.
“The special public holiday declaration was made in accordance to Section 8 of the Holidays Act 1951 for the Peninsular of Malaysia and the Federal Territories of Labuan.
“The state governments in Sabah and Sarawak would need to declare the additional public holiday on that date according to their respective Holidays Ordinance,” the statement said.
Yesterday, the Election Commission of Malaysia (EC) has declared 28 April as the nomination day while the 14th General Election will be held on Wednesday, 9 May. – MalaysiaGazette
