PETALING JAYA – The Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition regrets that the Election Commission (EC) has stated that they have ‘no time’ to meet up with its representative on PPBM’s request to use PKR’s logo in the coming 14th General Election (GE14).
Its Chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said, EC’s reply on the matter will only invite negative perceptions as the organisation can be seen as showing displeasure of a fair and equal election.
“The letter written by the Secretary-General of PKR, Datuk Saifuddin Nasution to request for an explanation was replied with ‘no time’, no time at all.
“They are fully booked. They are very busy. This is not the way the government conduct themselves. EC is established to assist in election, so that it can be conducted in an orderly and peaceful manner,” he said during a media conference after chairing the PH Presidency Council at the headquarters of PPBM today.
On 11 April 2018, Saifuddin delivered a letter to EC to state the wish of PPBM, DAP, PAN and PKR in using a single logo and symbol for the coming GE14 on 9 May.
In that letter, it also required EC’s explanation on the postal voting election process, early voting and the requirements needed to apply for the permission to utilise a party’s logo by other parties or individuals.
Mahathir also said that they are still consistent and wish to utilise a single logo or symbol to represent PH. As of now, they had not receive any objection from EC on their wish.
“PPBM has been disbanded. Although there is no more PPBM, the individuals still have the rights to contest.
“We will contest as independent candidate but we would wish to use Keadilan’s logo.
“EC said that we do not need to get an approval from EC, and we will hold on to that (EC’s statement).
“We hope that the EC and the government will not say or give orders that we cannot use (logo, symbols of PKR) on the very last minute of candidates nomination so that we cannot contest and BN can win without contesting,” he added. – MalaysiaGazette.
