BANGI – The good relationship between the former Menteri Besar of Selangor Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and the leadership of PAS is nothing new. As such, he would be helping the Islamic party to develop the economy of Terengganu, by starting with the agriculture sector.
In a recent interview with MalaysiaGazette, the former businessman said that although he is no longer a Member of Parliament, he would like to continue to share his vast experience in the corporate world and assist to develop the East Coast state.
“I am grateful for the offer (as an economic advisor). I accepted the post voluntarily and I’m not paid for that as I do not want to work.
“I have some experience in the corporate sector and I am ready to give my advice on the asset management of Terengganu so that it is managed well, for the benefit of the people.
“My main focus is not on the oil industry. I have some experience in agriculture, therefore, I will be focussing on that sector,” he told MalaysiaGazette after the breaking of fast with the state government of Terengganu at the Bangi Convention Centre last night.
Elaborating further on the Menteri Besar of Terengganu Dr. Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar’s statement that the Abdul Khalid visited the PAS Terengganu state government a week after the state government was formed, Samsuri said that they offered the position of the Economic Advisor to Abdul Khalid for his ability and experience in the corporate world, besides having successfully developed the Selangor State Government during his administration from 2008 to 2014.
He was the Chief Executive of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) from 1979 – 1994 and led the ‘dawn raid’ on the London Stock Exchange which resulted PNB in gaining a 51% in the Guthrie, a British plantation in less than two hours. -MalaysiaGazette
