KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian would need to change their perception that they no longer need to pay for their National Higher Education Fund (PTPTN) loan the moment Pakatan Harapan (PH) won the election.
On the contrary, the Chairman of PTPTN, Wan Saiful Wan Jan said that the delay of PTPTN repayment as promised in the PH manifesto would take time and can only be implemented after several procedures are fulfilled.
“We need to correct our expectations that we no longer need to pay for the loan when we won on 9 May. We need a proper process,” he said in the PTPTN press conference today.
According to Wan Saiful, they are unsure when the delay of payment will take effect.
“The delay may happen on 1 September, or perhaps 1 October. I cannot give an exact date on when we can implement that now.
“It will be based on the information we get from the application besides factoring other considerations,.
“Perhaps next year, and maybe next week,” he added.
Therefore, Wan Saiful said that the PTPTN borrowers would still need to serve their loans as long as no announcement on the delay is made.
“They need to pay as long as we do not make the announcement.
“Let’s put it this way, as long as they have yet to receive a letter from us stating that they do not need to pay, they need to pay,” he added. -MalaysiaGazette
