KUALA LUMPUR – Tan Sri Annuar Musa alleged that the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) would be broken down and distributed to several ministries.

The Secretary-General of UMNO said that the distribution could involve the Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Entrepreneur Development, Ministry of Education, Prime Minister’s Department and Ministry of Economic Affairs.

“It was reported that MARA would soon be broken down and distributed among the Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Entrepreneur Development, Ministry of Education, Prime Minister’s Department and Ministry of Economic Affairs… MARA is likened to GHANIMAH (wealth taken by force from an enemy in times of war). If it truly happens, YB Rina would only be taking care of its skin… where its flesh has been transferred,” he said through a Twitter posting last night.

In a recent update, the Minister of Entrepreneur Development Mohd Redzuan Mohd Yusof said that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad would make a decision on the status of MARA soon.

At this moment, the management and responsibilities of the Bumiputra agency is being discussed at the Cabinet level.

Nevertheless, on a personal basis, Mohd Redzuan wished that MARA would be placed under his ministry although the agency was previously under the care of the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, which is now known as the Ministry of Rural Development.

MARA was an agency under the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development under the previous Barisan Nasional government. It was established in 1 March 1966 under the Parliament Act as a statutory body from the resolution of the first Bumiputera Economic Congress which took place the previous year.

The Council is responsible for developing, encouraging, facilitating and fostering the economic and social development in the federation, particularly in rural areas. -MalaysiaGazette
