KUALA LUMPUR – Special officer to Minister of Finance Tony Pua had issued a different stance from the Minister of Works, Baru Bian on the total compensations needed for the abolishment of tolls.
The Member of Parliament of Damansara said that the RM400 billion mentioned by Baru Bian was not accurate and he is confident that the amount should be lower. The government would need to do a recalculations on that.
“The RM400 billion was taken from the previous government, by factoring the compensations for the toll concessions, including future profits.
“At this moment, we do not have any plans to do so (taking over concessions). We will pay the amount of compensation based on the rate written in the contract, which is, the cost of highway construction without future profits.
“Which is why, the amount of money needed to take over the tolls would not reach RM400 billion,” he told the media when met at the lobby at the Parliament.
However, he refused to elaborate further on Baru Bian’s (Selangau – PH) statement.
Tony (Damansara – PH) also thanked the former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for nominating him as the rightful individual to take charge in abolishing tolls.
“I thank Datuk Seri Najib Razak on his confidence on me and I will give my proposals to the relevant parties,” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
