SUBANG JAYA – The fireman who was assaulted by rioters at the vicinity of the Sri Maha Mariamman temple at Seafields is in a critical condition. He is currently unconscious and placed on life support at the Ramsay Sime Darby Medical Centre.
The victim, Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, 24, had served the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Department for three years.
“I visited him at the hospital and the medical report showed that he is in a critical condition. He is being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and place on life support.
“He is badly injured, suffered a broken rib and internal injuries. Based on his bruises, it looks like he was whacked and stomped, which caused his ribs to fracture and puncture his lungs which caused him breathing difficulties,” said the Minister of Housing and Local Government, Zuraida Kamaruddin.
Minister at Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mujahid Yusof Rawa and the Menteri Besar of Selangor Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari were also at the hospital to visit the victim.
Zuraida also appealed to the public to take heed from this incident and not take the law into their own hands.
In a sad tone, she also slammed the rioters for being uncivilised in attacking a civil servant in uniform who was carrying out his duty to put out fire for the safety of the rioters.
“I cannot accept the truth that they attacked the fire trucks and Emergency Medical Response Service (EMRS) van who were there to assist them. The police have the video recording of the incident. I hope that the police will take stern actions against them.
“I hope that this would serve as a lesson to all for not taking the law into their own hands.
“I met his parents. They came from a paddy field village in Kedah. Adib’s siblings and fiancé were here too, waiting next to Adib.
“Let’s pray the best for Adib… he is only 24 year-old and he was supposed to get married end of this December,” she sighed.
She also made a visit to the location of the incident to monitor the latest situation. She also urged the public not to repeat such despicable act.
Zuraida also wanted all senior stakeholders involved to sit with the temple committees and developer, to seek common grounds on this issue.
“This is the first time in the history where a fireman is badly affected in an incident. I hope that the mastermind behind of this riot would be arrested and justice would be served.
“I also give my personal guarantee to bear all medical costs of the victim in SJMC until he is fully recovered,” she said. -MalaysiaGazette
