KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Azwanddin Hamzah, the President of Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) was arrested at around 3.00 p.m. at the Keramat Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) for his speech during the Justice for Adib and Sack Waytha Moorthy rally organised by the Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (GERAS) at Dataran Seni yesterday.
Based on the resources of Malaysia Gazette, the police went to the office of JMM at Pandan Kapital around 2.00 p.m. to meet Azwanddin. However, he was not around. Upon knowing that he was at the UTC, the police made a trip to arrest him there.
According to the Selangor Criminal Investigation Department Chief, Senior Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat, Azwanddin will be investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for threatening to attack the police station.
“Besides that, he will also be investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code for insulting an individual,” he said in a statement today.
In his speech yesterday during the rally, Azwanddin used provocative language and repeatedly used a derogatory words against the Minister in Prime Minister’s Department (National Unity and Social Wellbeing) P. Waytha Moorthy.
He also urged the crowd to attack a police station if no action was taken in the murder case of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.
The ill-fated fireman succumbed to his injuries on 17 December. He suffered critical injuries after being assaulted while attending to a call for duty during the Sri Maha Mariamman temple riot in Seafields, Selangor on 27 November. -MalaysiaGazette
