PUTRAJAYA – Those who fail to fight the temptations of corruption are weak and will never be successful.

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said, lust encourages human to commit offences, such as accepting bribes.

Thus, the public servants are urged to practice fasting in the Holy month of Ramadan as a catalyst in the agenda of fighting corruption.

“Corruption is a bad practice. If we do not fight our lust and when we are being offered bribes, we will be weak. Those who are weak will never be successful. Only the strong ones will make it, they are strong in fighting temptations.

“The month of Ramadan train us to control ourselves and we need to utilise this month not only for worship, but it is also a month for us to train ourselves to push aside the urges of lusts,” he said during the monthly assembly with the staff from the Prime Minister’s Department at Perdana Putra this morning.

Also present during the assembly were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and the Ministers from the Prime Minister’s Department such as P. Waytha Moorthy and Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa.

Dr Mahathir also said that the practice of fighting lusts should not only be practiced during the Ramadan month, but it should also be extended to other months.

“Although we sometimes give in to temptations, but, if we live by our lusts, what we do could be worse.

“Perhaps, we could get something successfully in the beginning but in the end, it would be detrimental for ourselves. If the whole Malaysia is strong in fighting temptations, I am confident that our country will be trusted by the world,” he added.

Yesterday, Dr Mahathir said that the people, including the civil servants would like the Pakatan Harapan (PH) to continue leading the country in the coming terms due to his seriousness in curbing corruption. -MalaysiaGazette
