KUALA LUMPUR – The Johor state government is alleged to be not serious in promoting the Visit Johor Year 2020, which will begin in six months’ time.

Its former Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin alleged that no major announcements or advertisements were placed to attract visitors or to promote the state by the state government.

He emphasised that the Tourism, Women, Family and Community Development Chairman, Liow Cai Tung should have actively promoted the various attractions of the state by now.

Nevertheless, as of now, there is no fixed target on visitors or strategies by the state government to ensure that the target is reached. There is also no programmes or events being lay out to continuously promote the state.

“The Visit Johor Year 2020 will start in less than six months. As expected, Johor will become the target destination for local and foreign visitors from all over the world. There should be continuous interesting promotions, fascinating performances to draw visitors here.

“Why is Johor so quiet, as though Johor is not ready to receive visitors. As if, we do not want people to visit us, or the state government does not think that Johor has the potential to be a world class destination for tourism,” Khaled said in a statement today.

According to Khaled, although Johor has plenty of interesting places to visit, creative, effective, prominent and serious campaigns and promotions are needed to ensure that the objectives can be achieved.

He added, the publicity and campaign for the Visit Johor Year should have been kicked off actively. In addition, Johor will also be the host for SUKMA 2020. Furthermore, year 2020 is also the Visit Malaysia Year.

“Therefore, where is the effort and seriousness of the government in this matter. Do not turn Johor into a dull state,” he said. -MalaysiaGazette
