KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 (Bernama) – The Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (Mestecc) Yeo Bee Yin promised that an integrated enforcement operation will be launched to find and shut down illegal factories in Pasir Gudang in a month’s time,

Answering the additional question from Hassan Abdul Karim (PH-Pasir Gudang) on the toxic pollution incidents at the area, she said, “I will be having a meeting with the Menteri Besar of Johor today. We will target on the illegal factories. We will conduct integrated operations to shut down the illegal factories in Pasir Gudang.”

“I call on members of Parliament and Pasir Gudang citizens to report any information they have on illegal factories to the Department of Environment, and we will go and close that factory.”
Yeo menegaskan apa yang diperlukan dalam menyelesaikan masalah kualiti udara di Pasir Gudang ialah anjakan paradigma dan mencari pendekatan berbeza berbanding sebelum ini.

She also said that the ministry has highlighted several approach such as, to set-up an Environment Department at Pasir Gudang, as well as to develop a system to analyse and identify carrying capacity of the area.

The government will also set-up an automatic toxic gas monitoring station as soon as possible. Besides that, it will also create several new compliancy regulations to the industry premises in Pasir Gudang, which include the installation of continuous monitoring devices. -MalaysiaGazette
