KUALA LUMPUR – The United States of America (USA) and Malaysia shares many similarities which act as the bond of both countries, especially from the aspects of socio-politic and diplomatic ties.

U.S. Ambassador to Malaysia, Kamala Shirim Lakhdhir said, the multi-racial, ethnic and religion society both nations share enabled us to form a more perfect union and society under rule of law.

When met by MalaysiaGazette, she said that the US respects Malaysia as a trade and diplomatic partner, although the two countries have a different administration system and constitution.

“Perhaps many don’t realise this but the fact is, there are too many similarities between the US and Malaysia.

“We, in US is also rich with the uniqueness of multi-racial, ethnic and religion. It is not surprising as this country is rich in historical and civilisation of the past.

“For instance, today, you can see that our Independence Day celebration is so colourful, the world is celebrating us and we generally respect each other’s countries.

“We are actually very happy to be in this country which is so rich in various cultures, religions, ethnics under one roof peacefully,” she said last night during the 243rd Anniversary of the Independence of the United States of America at the JW Marriot Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysian Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefley Ahmad also attended the event last night.

The guests were not only served with various traditional and popular American food, they were also entertained by the Embassy’s band.

It was truly a jubilant 4th of July in Kuala Lumpur. It is also the celebration of freedom to commemorate the Declaration of Independence of the United States, on 4 July 1776 where the Continental Congress declared that the 13 American colonies were no longer subject to the monarch of Britain. -MalaysiaGazette
