KUALA LUMPUR – The Member of Parliament of Gelugor, Ramkarpal Singh expressed his shock when certain quarters likened the Advisor of DAP, Lim Kit Siang to controversial Islamic preacher from India, Dr Zakir Naik.

Furthermore, the urges for Kit Siang, who is also the Member of Parliament of Iskandar Putri to leave Malaysia in favour of Zakir Naik who is wanted by the Indian authorities is ‘laughable’ for Ramkarpal.

Earlier, the Member of Parliament (MP) of Pasir Mas from PAS, Ahmad Fadhli Shaari for the veteran leader to leave Malaysia for purportedly failing to understand the Federal Constitution by asking Zakir to leave Malaysia voluntarily.

According to Ramkarpal, Kit Siang only voiced his agreement with author, Anas Zubedy who earlier said that the preacher should leave the country.

“I, too, have urged Zakir to be extradited to India in the past for legal reasons.

“Kit Siang was only echoing the view of Anas Zubedy that the international preacher should leave the country in order to preserve the multi-racial harmony of the country. Therefore, what wrong is there?

“Remember, there is absolutely no reason for Lim to leave this country. He is a Malaysian citizen who has contributed much in his 50 years of service to this country, unlike Zakir who is not even a citizen and has created enough controversy remaining here despite being wanted in India.

“Ahmad Fadhli ought to direct his mind to the elephant in the room, namely the problem of Zakir’s presence in Malaysia despite being wanted in India for offences allegedly committed there, including money laundering,” he said in his Facebook post.

According the Chairman of DAP National Legal Bureau, Ahmad Fadhli’s statement was immature and childish as he was diverting the main issue.

Earlier, Ahmad Fadhli expressed his disappointment with Kit Siang’s opinion as he alleged that the latter should understand the Federal Constitution and law which enables Islam to be preached to the non-Muslims and not the otherwise.

“Zakir Naik has never forced anyone to accept his opinion. He was only preaching using comparisons of religion and it is up to the people to accept or reject it.

“As a country which places Islam as the Federal religion, there is no reason that Zakir Naik’s approach is unsuitable for the country.

“If anyone should leave Malaysia, that person should be Lim Kit Siang for failing to understand the Federal Constitution and not Zakir Naik. Malaysia will benefit without such person in the country,” said Ahmad Fadhli.

Meanwhile, 60,000 voters have voted through Fakir Ilmu’s Facebook account for Kit Siang to leave the country as opposed to 1,700 who did not agree.

“In light of Lim Kit Siang asking Zakir Naik to leave the country voluntarily, therefore, we in Fakir Ilmu want to make a poll, who wants Lim Kit Siang to leave Malaysia and Dr Zakir Naik to stay?” said the information on the poll which will expire in five days’ time. -MalaysiaGazette
