KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Najib Razak cynically said that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government could announce a public holiday in not more than two years in celebration of the national debt reaching RM1 trillion.
According to the former Prime Minister, the national debt has reached RM805 billion after the Minister of Finance borrowed another RM3 billion yesterday. Besides that, there are also panda and samurai bond in the pipeline.
“Is has only entered August and RM87.8 billion (RM80.5 billion in local bond and RM7.3 billion in samurai bond) have been borrowed.
“They only pay back RM26 billion,” he said in a Facebook post.
Najib, who is also the former Finance Minister, made comparisons of the current loan of RM87.8 billion which was borrowed within the first 8 months of 2019 and RM86 billion which was borrowed throughout 2016, where RM48 billion was repaid.
He also compared the borrowings to year 2017 where RM113.9 billion was borrowed and RM73 billion was repaid.
“The PH government borrows heavily. They sell assets but the economy continues to drop.
“In no more than two years, the PH government can announce a public holiday where the national debt officially reaches RM1 trillion,” Najib quipped. -MalaysiaGazette
