KAJANG – Yew Wei Liang, the man involved in a road rage which led to the death of bank manager, Syed Muhammad Danial Syed Syakir, near the junction of Southville City at Bangi on 10 August was charged at the Kajang Court today.
The 41-year-old accused, arrived at the court at 9.30 am, clad in black T-shirt with his hands cuffed, guarded by the police.
The accused was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a mandatory death sentence if found guilty. He was charged for committing the offence on 10 August at KM293.6 of the North-South Expressway.
The accused nodded his head when the charges were read to him before Magistrade Nor Afidah Idris. No confession was recorded.
His lawyer, Varghese Onny rose and told the court that the suspect complained of injuries during police detention and had to be taken to the Kajang Hospital on 13 August, adding that he had been forced into giving a confession
The defence also alleged that they have received a complaint from the father of the accused for receiving a call from the accused’s wife’s mobile phone number on 18 August when the phone was in police’s custody.
Magistrate Nor Afidah fixed 27 September for the remention of the case and to receive all documents on the case besides listening to the suspect’s allegations on the abuse he received during police detention along with his medical reports.
The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor, Siti Noor Hafizah Zakaria.
The suspect and his 36-year-old wife was remanded for seven days beginning 11 August before the remand was extended last Saturday.
The tragic incident started with a minor road accident between the vehicle driven by the late Syed Muhammad Danial and the suspect at the south-bound Sungai Besi toll plaza.
The two then were allegedly involved in a chase which ended when both cars stopped at the right lane of the expressway, followed by a fight.
After they returned to their respective cars, Syed Muhammad Danial allegedly came out of his car with a baseball bat and began hitting the accused’s vehicle. The accused then, allegedly hit Syed Muhammad Danial, pinning him between the accused’s vehicle and the road divider.
Syed Muhammad Danial passed away on 10 August while receiving treatment at the Nilai Medical Centre on the day of the road rage. -MalaysiaGazette
