KUALA LUMPUR – Perak State Assemblyman of Tronoh, Paul Yong Choo Kiong was charged for raping an Indonesian maid today.

Yong, who is also the Perak state executive councillor however pleaded not guilty on the charges.

“I understand (the charges read to him) but I have never committed the offence,” said Yong as reported in an online news portal.

On 8 July, a 23-year-old Indonesian woman lodged a police report claiming that she was raped by Yong at his house in Meru. She was also working as a domestic helper at Yong’s residence.

Yong was represented by lawyer, Leong Cheok Keng, who is also the Malim Nawar state assemblyman.

More than 100 people, including his family members and friends were present at the court, showing their support for the DAP state assemblyman.

Also seen at the court accompanying Yong were the Speaker of Perak Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham, State Exco and DAP Youth Chief Howard Lee, the Member of Parliament (MP) of Taiping Teh Kok Lim and four Perak DAP state assemblymen Teoh Yee Chern (Astaka), Chong Zhemin (Keranji), A Sivasubramaniam (Buntong) and Leow Thye Yih (Pokok Asam). -MalaysiaGazette
