KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Najib Razak had spent RM3.3 million to buy gifts for the former Prime Minister of Qatar.
Defence counsel of the SRC International Sdn Bhd case, Farhan Read raised the matter during a cross-examination with the Investigating Officer from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Rosli Hussain.
He said, based on the credit card transaction of the former Prime Minister on 8 August 2014, the gift was bought from jeweller Swiss De Grisogono. According to Farhan, the gift was an appreciation to the former Prime Minister of Qatar.
Reinforcing his claims, the lawyer attached the appreciation letter from the wife of the Qatari former Prime Minister to Najib’s wife, Datin Rosmah Mansor.
However, Rosli said that he is unaware of the letter but only knew about the expenditure through Najib’s statement to the MACC earlier.
“That was his allegation when he testified. I need to look at that letter first. Datin Seri Rosmah did not tell us about that earlier,” the final witness told the High Court.
Earlier, Rosli said that Najib spent RM3 million to buy gifts for a leader of a country. He also verified that Najib has spent RM84 million for corporate social responsibility (CSR) and political activities in 2015. -MalaysiaGazette
