JOHOR BAHRU – The stench which caused 33 students from Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Pasir Putih, Pasir Gudang to experience vomiting, shortness of breath and dizziness on Wednesday was not due to dumping of toxic waste, say police.
The Chief Police of Johor, Datuk Mohd Kamarudin Md Din, who confirmed this, said he had contacted the Seri Alam District Police Chief Supt Ismail Dolah to inquire into the matter but was informed that no toxic waste disposal had been detected so far.
“I have spoken to the District Police Chief of Seri Alam, so far there has been no dumping of toxic waste anywhere related to the recent incident,” he told a press conference at the Johor Contingent Police headquarters, responding to a question whether the police had received any report on toxic waste dumping in Pasir Gudang.
The incident involving five boys and 28 girls reportedly occurred on Wednesday around 7.30 am but no one has been hospitalised, they were allowed to return home after receiving outpatient treatment at a health clinic nearby. -MalaysiaGazette
