TANJUNG PIAI – Deputy Chairman of Johor UMNO cum the Pulau UMNO Division Chief Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed could be the best candidate for the Tanjung Piai by-election if he is given the chance to contest.

According to a report by Chinese press, Kwong Wah Yit Poh, while the Tanjung Piai MCA Chief Wee Jeck Seng is said to be the most deserving candidate to represent MCA, Nur Jazlan is seen to be potential if UMNO is to send their candidate to contest for the by-election.

“Nur Jazlan was the Deputy Home Minister and he is also half Chinese as his mother is a Chinese.

“He has good relationship with the Chinese community and he is a good candidate for Tanjung Piai,” a source said.

Prior to the delineation exercise, Tanjung Piai was once placed under the Pulai Parliamentary area.

“The strongman from UMNO and former Minister of Communications, Tan Sri Mohamed Rahmat used to contest in Pulai. The older generation still have an emotional tie to him.

“Nur Jazlan is the son to Mohamed and he can harness the support from the Malays,” the source said.

Meanwhile, Sinchew Daily reported that the Bersatu Chief of Tanjung Piai, Karmaine Sardini could be a potential candidate and may receive the blessings from the Pakatan Harapan to contest in the area.

Karmaine used to contest in the Pontian Parliamentary seat during the General Election in 2018. However, he lost to the candidate from UMNO, Datuk Ahmad Maslan with a slim majority of 833 votes. – MalaysiaGazette
